The Best Vegan Food in Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a very vegan friendly city, and I’ve visited twice now. There are a huge variety of options to suit every budget. Here is a list of my favourite vegan and vegetarian friendly food places in Amsterdam, a mix of vegan-only and some that have vegan and vegetarian options.

Canals in Amsterdam

Food Hallen

A little out of the centre of Amsterdam is Food Hallen, which has lots of different food stalls, including Vietnamese, Greek, Mexican, and more, with vegan options at most of them. I had the Vietnamese which was delicious. There's also a great atmosphere there, especially in the evening.

Saint Jean

Saint Jean is a very famous vegan bakery - be prepared to queue out of the door - but it is so worth it. Across the street is a deli/bakery with more savoury things like sandwiches and soups. I still think about my pistachio cruffin and almond croissant, and it’s all delicious. There isn’t much seating though, especially at the bakery, so don’t expect to sit, especially in peak hours.

Box Sociaal

Box Sociaal is a great place for brunch. It’s not fully vegan but it has good vegan options and they focus on sourcing local and sustainable products for all their meals. I really enjoyed it there.

Long Pura

Long Pura is an Indonesian restaurant in the Jordaan area of the city. It has an incredible range of options and plenty of vegan and vegetarian ones. You won’t leave there hungry!

Rosel

Rosel serves viral sandwiches, and they are worth the hype. While there is no seating there and you might wait a little while for the food, I would still recommend it. There are only four sandwiches on the menu and one of them is vegan, and it’s delicious.

Soup Enzo

Soup Enzo is a chain of restaurants which serves lots of different soups and salads. There are plenty of vegan options which are all delicious. It’s also reasonably priced.

Have a Roll

If you’re looking for incredible vegan cinnamon rolls, Have a Roll is the place to go!

Soil Vegan Cafe

While I didn’t get the chance to visit, Soil Vegan Cafe is highly rated for its food, so it’s definitely worth checking out.

Margo’s

Margo’s is another vegan bakery with really good pastries. It’s right next to Food Hallen, so you could even combine the two!

Van Holland Stroopwafels

If you’re looking for vegan stroopwafels, Van Holland is pretty much the only place to find them in Amsterdam. You can get both fresh and packaged ones and they are delicious.

Mr Nata

Looking for vegan pastel de nata? Mr Nata has vegan options!

Albert Heijn

Albert Heijn is the main supermarket in the Netherlands and is good to be aware of if you’re travelling there. It has lots of well-labelled vegan products if you’re looking for a cheaper breakfast or lunch and they are all quite tasty.

I hope this gives you a good idea of the best vegan food in Amsterdam. It is by no means an exhaustive list, and I’m sure you will discover some more incredible places. Don’t forget to have a look at my Amsterdam itinerary here if you are planning your trip!
