How to Visit Keukenhof from Amsterdam by Bus

Keukenhof Gardens are one of the biggest attractions in Amsterdam. They are open only during tulip season, which runs mid-March to mid-May, with peak tulip time usually in mid-April. Visiting them is a great way to experience the Dutch tulips without travelling far out of the city. There are a few ways to visit Keukenhof: driving, taking a tour, or taking the bus. In this guide, I’ll tell you how to visit Keukenhof from Amsterdam by bus.

How to Book Tickets for Keukenhof
You need to book tickets in advance. They will be sold out every day, especially during April. You can book on the Keukenhof website, and tickets cost €20 (approx. £16.85). If you visit at the beginning or end of the season and can get one on the door, they cost €25 (approx. £21.10).
I’d recommend booking a combiticket, which includes the bus trip there and back. This will cost you €37 (approx. £31.20), including the entrance fee. If the combitickets are sold out, try booking a car entry ticket, and skip the paying for parking part. This is what I did. You can then tap on and off the buses with a contactless card, and it costs exactly the same as with the combiticket (the bus tickets are €8.50 each way). Make sure you also tap off the bus!
How to Take the Bus from Amsterdam to Keukenhof
The buses from Amsterdam to Keukenhof leave from outside Europaplein metro station. It is very well signposted - you can’t miss it - and there are people there to help. You will likely have to queue for the bus, which comes around every 10-15 minutes, and the journey is around 30-45 minutes.
I’d strongly recommend going first thing in the morning. Keukenhof opens at 8am, and by 9:30, it was absolutely heaving with the people arriving by busload on tour buses. Unfortunately, this really ruins the experience. I luckily got there when it opened and it was incredibly peaceful.
The garden is beautifully curated. At times it feels a bit set-up, but the tulips were stunning nonetheless. You’ll also get a glimpse of some tulip fields on the way there and around it.
